Farah Moti, MD, FRCSC

Meet Dr. Moti

Dr. Moti is an Ophthalmologist, a dedicated mother of three, who recently moved from South Africa to Canada. She is the President of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA). She is also a founding member and Secretary of Women in Ophthalmology South Africa (WOSA), demonstrating her dedication to advancing the field and advocating for comprehensive eye care.

Her career includes leading the Ophthalmology department at a regional hospital in Johannesburg for five years, where she overcame significant challenges and made remarkable improvements in patient care. In private practice, she has refined her skills in corneal surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Chris van Niekerk and developed her vision of a boutique ophthalmic service.

Dr. Moti advocates for a return to generalist practice in Ophthalmology, using her broad experience to effectively address diverse pathologies. Her special interests include:

  • Bilateral cataract surgery
  • Diabetes-related eye conditions
  • Corneal transplants
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration
  • Neuro-ophthalmology

Her academic qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, University of the Witwatersrand, 2005
  • Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology, 2013 (with distinction)
  • Fellowship of the College of Ophthalmic Surgeons of South Africa, 2013

Dr. Moti has significantly contributed to the field, notably reducing cataract surgery waiting times at Sebokeng Hospital and developing innovative approaches to enhance patient outcomes.
