Ozurdex is a dexamethasone Intravitreal Implant that recently was approved by the FDA and Health Canada for the use of noninfectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment and macular edema. Ozurdex is a biodegradable implant that is injected into the vitreous of the eye where it gives medication directly to the area needed over a prolonged span of time.

At North Toronto Eye Care we have had very good results in it’s use for treatment of uveitis. Studies show the implant creates a decrease in vitreous haze and improves best correct visual acuity by 3 lines. As with any procedure, patients who have Ozurdex implanted can experience  a few different side effects such as increased eye pressure, red eyes, conjunctival hemorrhage, eye pain, cataracts, vitreous detachment, and headache.

We are excited to offer Ozurdex implants to our patients who are in need of a different treatment option for their uveitis and macular edema. for more information on Ozurdex follow the following link at www.ozurdex.com.
