Suffering from dry eyes is a pretty typical issue for people who live in cold climates and tend to say indoors in dry areas. But taking something as simple as omega-3 (fatty acid) supplements can help reduce the symptoms of dry eye by increasing tear volume and tear flow. In a study published in the Journal Cornea a randomized, double-masked study was performed looking at dry eye symptoms over a period of 90 days after receiving a daily supplement of fish oil. After the study 70% of patients reported having no symptoms of dry eye compared with 7% in the placebo group. Omega-3 has been shown to reduce inflammation and change the composition of the tear film which both play an important  part in dry eye. So next time your at the grocery store and you have a choice between the omega- 3 enriched eggs or milk, think about your eyes and consider getting a little more omega-3 in your diet. Your eyes will thank you for it.
